U.S. donates 30 thousand tons of wheat
With the sale of this product is expected to generate resources with which to finance various economic development projects for the benefit of the poorest rural communities in the country, said in a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador.
The grain will be donated through the Department of Agriculture United States, under the "Food for Progress 2011", according to statements by the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador, the international press.
Since 2001, El Salvador has received food assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for a total of 130,000 metric tons, valued at $ 22.4 million, to overcome the devastation unleashed by natural crises such as Hurricane Mitch, the earthquakes of January and February 2001 and to improve the ability to trade.
Currently the country faces new expensive in the price of grains like maize, which has increased by four dollars a quintal.
The Ministry of Agriculture has so far ruled out a possible importation of white corn and said private companies who will be responsible for that task, to counter the rising price of grain.
